In the Count’s Roundel, the wallpaper is decorated with hand-painted butterflies, flowers and songbirds in the most beautiful colours. The wallpaper was recreated in 2013 based on an original 18th century design from Gammel Estrup.
Wallpaper from the East
In the late 18th century, the beautifully decorated wallpapers grow fashionable among the Danish elite and in the rest of Europe. They are made from separate pieces of paper that are assembled into strips after painting and then pasted to the walls.
The original model for this wallpaper was probably ordered by the count at Gammel Estrup more than 200 years ago for a grand room. Years later it was taken down and stowed away until 2013 when it was found and copied using the original technique.
