In the Great Cabinet, the year is 1781, a time when new ideals flow through Europe. The elite distance themselves from the trappings of powdered wigs, stiff, formal suits and opulent decorations and from the endless stream of ceremonial gatherings.
Now it is all about natural and individual self-expression. New salons are introduced where people gather less formally for music, reading and discussion.
Interior design
The style of the room and furniture is neoclassicist, inspired by the straight lines and geometrical shapes of antiquity. Chair legs have become straight like the pillars of ancient Greek temples, and the fabric on the walls features patterns from antiquity based on an original sample from Gammel Estrup.
