Become a Volunteer

Join the Network
We are looking for friendly and welcoming people of all ages who would like to take part in the museum’s activities at various times throughout the year, bringing engagement, knowledge, and a strong presence.
Since 2006, Gammel Estrup – The Danish Manor & Estate Museum has had a volunteer network for engaged women and men with an interest in manor house history and a willingness to lend a hand in the museum’s many activities. Today, the network has around 120 members, and there is always room for more.
As a member of the Network, we expect you to participate at least two days per year. This can include, for example, taking part in the 18th-century festival or Halloween, participating in Christmas activities, serving as a museum host in Gammel Estrup’s halls and rooms during events, or joining one of the museum’s permanent volunteer groups.
The permanent groups are involved with the museum on a regular basis. These include the Kitchen Group, which helps with baking in the Manor House Kitchen; the Sewing Group, which meets every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday throughout the year to sew costumes and other textiles for the museum; the Garden Group, which tends the museum’s kitchen garden; the Forestry Worker Group, which assists with the maintenance and presentation of the Forestry Worker’s Cottage every Wednesday; and the Flower Group, which from Easter until the autumn half-term holiday creates flower arrangements for the museum’s many halls and chambers every Thursday.
The annual membership fee for the Network for active volunteers is 200 DKK for individuals and 300 DKK for couples. If you choose a couple membership, we simply expect one person to participate actively in the Network. With this contribution, you help support book publications and the acquisition of objects for the museum’s collections. Children can only join the Network when accompanied by an adult.
In addition to participating in the Network, you will receive:
- Free admission to Gammel Estrup and the neighbouring museum The Green Museum
- Invitations to attend the museum’s receptions
- The annual publication "Herregårdshistorie" (Journal of Manor & Estate History)
- A 10% discount on all purchases over 100 DKK in Gammel Estrup’s shop
We hold two annual information meetings. Here you will be among the first to hear about the museum’s upcoming activities, and you will have the opportunity to chat with staff and other members over a cup of coffee.
If you would like to be part of the museum’s network but do not wish to, or are unable to, contribute as a volunteer, you can sign up as a supporting member.
The annual membership fee for a supporting membership follows the price of the annual pass and is currently 280 DKK for individuals and 425 DKK for couples. With this contribution, you help support book publications and the acquisition of objects for the museum’s collections.
With a supporting membership you receive:
