The History of Gammel Estrup

Gammel Estrup has a history spanning almost 700 years. For 600 of those years, the manor house was in the hands of the Brock/Scheel family – one of Denmark's wealthiest and most influential families.

Since 1930, Gammel Estrup has operated as a museum, welcoming curious visitors to experience life among masters and servants throughout the ages.

The Scheel Family

Gammel Estrup was owned by the same family for 600 years – the Brok/Scheel family.

The Scheels were among the wealthiest and most powerful noble family for centuries, and the family has a colorful cast of characters.
