Gammel Estrup's Collection
Gammel Estrup – The Danish Manor & Estate Museum engages with all aspects of the cultural history of Danish manor houses, including both the settings—the buildings, interiors, and cultural environments—and the people—the owners, servants, and other employees.
The museum’s collection thus includes all types of objects, paintings and furniture, photographs and other materials originating from Danish manor houses.
Gammel Estrup – The Danish Manor & Estate Museum collects all types of objects related to the Danish manor house environment. The majority of the museum’s collection is displayed within the interiors of Gammel Estrup.
All of the museum’s objects are registered in SARA, the electronic registration system of the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces for state and state-recognised museums.
Gammel Estrup undertakes an important national preservation role and continuously works on the restoration of objects, buildings, and cultural environments.
Some of the museum’s objects are on display, while others are securely stored in a dedicated storage facility.
The museum’s library houses literature on Danish manor houses and their history. It is organised in an interdisciplinary manner, covering areas such as architecture, cultural and art history, Danish history, and topography.
The library was established in collaboration with the Royal Danish Library and contains both historic and more recent works.
