Experience Christmas at the Manor 100 Years Ago
24 November – 30 December 2026
Experience the special exhibition 'Christmas Upstairs & Downstairs' in the manor’s many halls and chambers. See decorated Christmas trees and set tables as they appeared for both the noble family and the servants. Get into the perfect Christmas spirit as the rooms and halls are specially decorated for the festive season.
In the manor kitchen, the kitchen maids are busy preparing for Christmas and getting ready for the large influx of guests who spent the holiday at Gammel Estrup. In the dining room, the table is set for the noble family’s grand Christmas dinner, while in the servant's hall, you can see how the servants ate at Christmas.
In the Parlour, you can see how the Christmas tree party was held for all the estate’s children, and in the Great Hall, the noble family’s Christmas tree shines. In the rooms, you can experience where the count’s family drank their coffee after dinner before the lights on the Christmas tree was lit, where the children enjoyed their gifts after the traditional Christmas tree dance, and how the family gathered around the piano to sing Christmas carols.
