A Journey Back to the 1720s
The spiral staircase leads from the ground floor to The Antechamber on the first floor. The Antechamber is fitted out as a magnificent entrance hall, introducing the 18th century’s ‘bel étage’ (beautiful storey). Prominent guests who were invited to dinner in The Great Hall were received here.
The Great Hall is the manor’s largest and finest hall. In all its splendour, it gives an impression of 18th century grandeur at Danish manors in general, and at Gammel Estrup in particular. The impressive stucco ceiling with its original chandelier, marbled doors and panels, painted floor and, not least, Flemish tapestries, which portray the family’s eight manors at the end of the 17th century, constitute a stunning and complete manor interior from the 18th century.

The Great Hall
A magnificent entrance that opens onto the 18th-century floor, featuring marbled panels and stucco details. Here, guests could immediately sense the power and wealth of the Scheel family
The magnificent stucco ceiling with its original chandelier, the marbled doors and panels, the painted floor, and not least the Flemish tapestries depicting the family’s eight manors at the end of the 17th century, together form a complete and splendid manor interior from the 18th century
From the Great Hall, there is access to the Alchemist’s Cellar and the Blue Tower Room, which today is used for various children’s activities. The room houses well-preserved frescoes and a unique ceiling painting featuring animal motifs
