Kitchen Garden & Green House

Utility Garden

In the manor garden west of the orangeries is Gammel Estrup’s historic kitchen garden and greenhouse.

In the garden, you will find traditional Danish vegetables and berries such as carrots, cabbage, and rhubarb, as well as blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries.

The greenhouse is a so-called “wine and peach house”, which was common at Danish estates around 1900. The greenhouse provided the household with fruit and vegetables and it was also a symbol of status, wealth and prestige.

The original greenhouse at Gammel Estrup was demolished during the 20th century, but Gammel Estrup The Danish Manor & Estate Museum has several photos of the greenhouse, which forms the basis of the newly built house.
